The CU-24 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team is comprised of 11 members (six of whom were willing to give us some information), all of whom bring something unique to the team. Chad Kossar is a freshman planning to major in Mechanical Engineering. He is a liscenced pilot and has been flying R/C models since he was 12 years old. His primary responsibilities include the fabrication of the new plane and maintenance/alterations of the old plane.
Eric is from Bethesda, MD. He graduated from Cornell in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and is currently pursuing a Masters of Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering. He has been working on the team for the past 3 years and will be graduating in December 2006. He hopes to pursue a career in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle research once he leaves Cornell.
James found his birthplace outside the humid, crime-ridden locale of Houston, TX but grew up amongst the posh, rolling hills of Austin with his mother and grandparents. Having a keen interest in math and science from the start, not to mention a talent for success, he flew model rockets when he was a boy and worked on his car as a charming young man in high school. With his heart and mind set on aerospace engineering, James entered NASA's prestigious High School Aerospace Scholars program, which further developed his interest in astronomy and his desire to work on the space program. At Cornell James studies Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and works on the engine team for CU-24. James enjoys international travel, reading, Mexican restaurants, and high-society gin and tonics by the fading sunset.
James Grossman is a Junior in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering major at Cornell. He claims he is from Long Island, though for some odd reason everyone thinks he is from England. James' path to Cornell could have been fraught with difficult decisions; luckily he manages to avoide these by refusing to apply anywhere else. His favorite hobbies include playing with computers, drinking tea, and finding new and interesting ways to 'dismantle' equipment. He is a member of the engine team on CU-24.
Sarah Leung is a sophomore from Rhode Island. She is in mechanical & aerospace engineering, and thinking of minoring in applied math or possibly computer science. She works on the engine sub-team. In all honesty, Sarah's in engineering now not because she particularly like to play with engines and the like, but because she like math, and she's in mechanical engineering because she'd choose hands-on work over pouring over code all day, any day. Sarah loves art, music, and writing. She likes to draw, sculpt, and write poetry. She plays the piano and the bass guitar. She also enjoys swimming and archery. Sarah likes to sleep, and (day)dream of being an architect, or of being Legolas, shooting Orcs in some distant nonexistent land. These are the things that keep her sane in engineering. Also, she likes mushrooms.
Tim is from Pleasantville, NY. He graduated magna cum laude from Union College in 2006 with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. While at Union he rowed on the varsity crew team and was actively involved in his fraternity; Delta Kappa Epsilon. Currently he is persuing a Masters of Engineering degree at Cornell University in Mechanical Engineering. In his free time he enjoys cycling and piloting general aviation aircraft.
